I was lucky enough to be selected to be one of the 8000 to initially explore the new Google Glass, and I thought, wouldn't it be cool if I chronicled my experiences using the product in an e-book that would be published shortly before Google Glass was released the general public? I would also maintain a blog, incorporating images and videos taken using Google Glass, then shortly before it is released to the public, flesh out the material into a full-length e-book (in the Kindle format) that would include additional thoughts and experiences unable to be documented by the Glass. Since the book would be primarily text (with some images), the blog would serve as a natural complement as it would contain all of the images and video clips taken.
As part of this adventure, I would also entertain suggestions from those who followed the blog to embark on novel experiences to be incorporated as events in the book (and share them online). As long as it wasn't illegal, immoral, unethical, dangerous, or unreasonable, I am pretty much up to anything. I also thought it would be fun to visit random people and document their daily routine (with their permission, of course) and incorporate them as featured characters in the book as well.
My biggest challenge is to never be boring, as I'm promising an entertaining ride that is essentially my life to become the narrative of the book. And since this is non-fiction, even though there might be temptation to "enhance" events to make them more exciting, my ethics would force me to remain honest. But that is where my viewers become a pivotal part of this process; by suggesting new adventures for me to embark upon, and maybe even becoming part of the story. Initially, only one person in 40,000 will have access to this new technology, so the inherent novelty will fascinate folks, but I will also face individuals who fear the potential abuses of this gadget, especially when it comes to privacy issues. I hope to serve as an ambassador of change, showing folks that in this day of social media, that we must embrace a new world of interconnectivity that spans across all cultures and unifies the globe.
While real life is unpredictable, I feel that I can document an entertaining journey with many unexpected twists that readers will not easily forget. Won't you be part of my trip into a brave new world of social interaction combined with the newest technological development? I'll see you on the other side of the glass.
